Minimum Cut Lengths
M22759 / AS22759 Wire and M27500 / WC 27500 Cable
Why do we have a minimum cut length?
M22759 / AS22759 wire and M27500 / WC 27500 cable are manufactured and supplied on qualified reels or spools. The governing specifications include continuous-length requirements for manufactured lots. When a distributor cuts material from an original qualified reel to fill customer orders, shorter lengths and remnants are naturally created.
Prowire's minimum saleable cut
Prowire has established 10 feet as an internal minimum saleable cut length for these products. Material under 10 continuous feet is normally removed from saleable inventory rather than offered as a standard MIL-Spec/SAE cut.
What this means for our customers
- Cuts of 10 feet or greater may be supplied from properly identified and traceable conforming material.
- Wire and cable are supplied as continuous, unspliced lengths unless otherwise disclosed.
- Manufacturer and lot/batch traceability are maintained as applicable.
- Customer purchase-order, contract, drawing, or quality requirements take precedence when they specify a different minimum length.
Important distinction
The 10-foot minimum is a Prowire quality and inventory-control policy; it is not a statement that the governing specification establishes a 10-foot minimum. Continuous-length provisions in the specifications address the manufacture, inspection, and/or acquisition of production quantities. Cutting a shorter customer-requested length from properly identified, conforming material does not by itself change the wire or cable construction.
